WF-35 Home Theater Speaker System By Tim Bohdan I purchased the entire Klipsch WF-35 surround sound 5.1 speaker package for my home theater: WF-35 floors (2), WC-24 center (1), XW-500d subwoofer (1), and WS-24 surrounds (2), and paid $2,997, plus sales tax. My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V3800. I am very pleased with my Klipsch purchase. I compared the WF-35s to the Klipsch RF-83 series, Klipsch RF-63 series, Martin Logan Source SEDC, Martin Logan Purity, and the Polk Audio RTi-A9 series. I chose the Klipsch WF-35s because they offered the best fidelity of any speaker I tested. The RF-83s were a close second with slightly superior bass, an advantage that is all but negated with a decent sub, plus the RF-83s cost several thousand dollars more. The Martin Logans only sound great when the speakers are pointed dead-center at the listener. When sitting off-center, the speakers lose most of their treble, which makes them useless for a spread-out listening audience. The Klipsch RF-63s suffered from too much of that "echo-ey" sound associated with the tractix horn, a problem not present on the RF-83s. The Polk Audios were a great overall system, but they did not surpass the Klipsch WF-35 speakers in fidelity. Let me dispel one myth about the WF-35s. The WF-35s produce a ton of deep rich bass, which defies both physics and logic, since the WF-35s contain only 5.25-inch diameter woofers. During one test, my son and I ran our new receiver in "pure direct" mode for 30 minutes, not realizing that this turned off the sub and the center channels. We did not notice the absence of the XW-500d subwoofer for over 30 minutes of testing. Once we realized the full rich sound was being produced entirely by the WF-35s alone, we switched back and forth between the 5.1 mode and the pure direct (stereo-only) modes and we could not tell the difference AT ALL. I don't know how, but Klipsch has found a way to generate powerful deep bass out of a speaker with only 5.25-inch drivers. Incredible. One the non-functional side, the WF-35s have a beautiful finish, carpet spikes for added stability, and clever magnetic grills. Regarding the subwoofer, let me say that the XW-500d produces powerful rock-bottom bass all the way down to its purported rating of 21 Hertz, all this despite having only a 10-inch driver. Once again Klipsch proves that superior sound trumps driver size and I commend their sound engineers for boldly arguing for a 10-inch driver that does the job of most 12-inch ones. I also considered two other subs: the Monitor Audio RSW-12 and the Klipsch KSW-12. The KSW-12 seemed underpowered. The Monitor Audio RSW-12 was on par with the XW-500d, but more expensive, so I decided to go with a sub that was tuned to accompany the rest of my system. I have rediscovered my CD collection, hearing subtleties that I never knew existed. On an old classical music CD of mine, I can actually hear the breathing of the musician during a 5-minute cello solo. The bottom line: if you can afford the entire WF-35 system, buy it. I had gone down to nice satellites, Mirage, a few years back. Couple with a Mirage center channel and hefty sub, they worked pretty well for movies but left a lot to be desired when it came to music. I spent a long time researching and listening to many floorstanding speakers and settled on the WF-35s. While not short by any means, they are narrower than many other mid-range speakers out there. And the dark espresso furniture grade finish is somewhat rare (black or cherry are more common options) and looks great. When I sat the TV on the stand, it immediately wanted to tip forward even though it was the correct size for my TV. Even with the weight of the DVD player in the bottom portion, it still wanted to tip. I ended up having to remove the swivel in order to ensure that the TV would not tip over. The two boards for the bottom area are not sanded and so they are rough; which, makes it difficult to clean. Yes, a person could sand it down and refinish it, but you should not have to do that with a new product. (A person could just go ahead and make this from scratch and not purchase it, but you purchase it so that it is already made and ready to use without having to do it yourself.) The finish is a bit rough on the bottom piece and the swivel will ruin good furniture. Both can be helped easily. I use a piece of felt cut to size on the swivel base and have softly sanded the interior rough spots to make it easier to dust. A bit of colored furniture polish helps restain the parts which are a bit off due to sanding. I like this stand because it comes assembled and it's sturdy. The front trim piece had a few small scratches and defects/rough edges in the black powder coat finish. The top glass had a 3 inch chip defect of the right front corner that had clearly been "buffed" at the factory rather than discarding it as "defective". The middle glass had scratches on the under surface black finish due to the 3 glasses sliding in transit. This is due to insufficient packing between the fragile glass pieces. No problem getting a replacement unit sent out, other than back order delay. The replacement unit also had scratches on the front trim but the powder coat was okay, and there were no glass flaws, so I "touched up" the finish flaws and assembled the new stand. None of the reviews to this point have suggested a QC problem by the manufacturer. I believe the back orders caused a rush in production, or the manufacturer is using a new plant which has QC issues. No matter, because although the stand looks good and does its job, I can't recommend it unless you have plenty of patience and have no alternate choices. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Great Corner Stand By Wilbur I had a difficult time finding a corner stand for my TV. It doesn't seem like too many companies make them any more. This stand was easy to put together and looks great. It is fairly rugged. Constructed from metal which is nice because I hate particle board furniture. By Greg I spent quite a bit of time looking around for a corner TV stand that had some sort of shelf above the TV. I settle upon this one because of the price point, the look, and the reviews I had seen. First of all, the product shipped very securely. I didn't have any problems at all with chipped or broken pieces. Everything looked great right out of the box. I found the construction quality to be really pretty good for this type of product. It seems very stable. My biggest complaint about the product is the assembly instructions. In similar assemblies in the past, each step has its own page to help illustrate the correct assembly. Not so in this case. Often times there were three or four steps per page. With the diagrams being so small, I found it taking lots of extra time to put this together. To be fair, this is an annoyance during assembly, but doesn't impact the quality of the end product. All in all, both my wife and I are very pleased with the look and quality of this entertainment center and would recommend it to anyone. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I'm Very Pleased By Smurf All the parts came in excellent condition. I had a friend put it together for me. He has a lot of experience and it did not seem like he had a lot of trouble putting it together. It did take him a long time but he wasn't in a rush. And there were a few, brief moments when he was a little confused about how things were supposed to be put together. All in all the set up went O.K. and I think he would say it was average in terms of difficulty. I put my new 40" LCD t.v. into the unit. It fits fine with some room to spare, of course.I am very pleased with the looks and the design of this product! I love having some shelving above the t.v. And my combo DVD/VCR fits perfectly in the slot above the t.v. The only mild criticm I have is I wish the unit were taller, allowing for more space about the t.v. My old entertainment center which I had to get rid of was taller, which I liked. I was looking for a black unit and this is chocolate, but it's pretty darn close to being black, thank goodness. It is typical of many low-end, mass produced modular furniture peices on the market. All wood pieces are "veneer" over partical board. The pieces are assembled with manufactured hardware (metal dowels and metal locking nuts that you insert into predrilled holes on each wood peice). The hardware is specifically designed for the unit so don't lose any! There are about 30 or so wood peices and at least 100 differene peices of hardware. It's best to spread it all out prior to construction. The instructions are a small printed, so some care is needed in making sure you're working on the right peice during each step. And it it can be hard to tell which side you're supposed to be instering the hardware on some peices. No worries though, the hardware removes easy enough when you make a mistake. Overall assembly took about an hour with the help of another adult. The finished product looks very nice, and the shipping process resulted in only a few minor blemishes - which is really good considering we live on an island in Alaska and it came through UPS, which means it got transfered from manufacturer, to truck to jet, to float plane and then to ATV BEFORE it reached our post office... Good packaging, which definately took some abuse in shipping. The unit is smaller than I expected but has a surprising amount of space. The corner design also fits tightly into the corner, which makes it look even smaller. Which could be a really good thing for a small house or apartment. And still it provides great storage for components. It fits our 42" Panasonic Flat screen with a few inches to spare. Has room for a PS3, a home theater receiver, DVD and VCR and the kids Wii. However, media storage is limited so you might find yourself looking for a media shelf or cabinet in which to store all your movies/games. In summary, this is well worth the $229 we paid. TV fits perfectly with a little room. - Fits nicley in the corner and takes up less space then my old boxing entertainment center - The color of the wood is darker than I thought from viewing the pictures online, but it still looks great - Easy to put together, just like putting together Ikea furniture - Enough shelving to hold my DVD, Wii, Wii Fit board, CD player, Amp/Receiver. Could hold more on the bottom if you have thinner items and take out one of the bottome shelves. - The holes in the backboard to feed your wires through are small. Would have liked 1 or 2 extra holes. Hard to fit all of the wires through, including the cable tv wires, etc... You may want to drill a second hole in the back panel especially for the top shelf depending on what you put there. - Shipping was free. Two of the pieces had minor scratches on them. Could have used them as is since you wouldn't really see the scratches, but called South Shore and they Fed Exed for free replacement pieces. Very nice. See all

Nice piece of furniture and great supplier support By Lochaven Looked at dozens of cabinets for our new 60" plasma before coming on this Furnitech unit that had great styling and all of the features I was looking for to house our 4 components and large center speaker. And based on my discussions with Eric at Furnitech, it appeared to be well constructed. So I placed the order, with just a little trepidation as this was my first furniture purchase over the net. Eric told me they unbox and inspect every unit just prior to shipment which made me feel a bit more confident. Well the unit arrived in less than a week and in perfect condition. Since these units come from Brazil, the packaging was very robust and well thought out. Being a bit of a perfectionist I noticed that the gaps around one of the glass doors was uneven by 1/16". But the unit has quality "european" style hinges which allowed me to get the gaps perfect in less than a minute. The cherry color and grain are better than what comes through on Furnitech's web site. TV Stand By Time Traveller This TV console is well made and durably packaged to withstand shipment. Since it is rather heavy at 200 lbs, I would recommend paying extra to have it carried into your home as we did. This is especially true if it has to go up or down stairs and you don't have 2 family members with exceptionally strong backs ! As for the product itself, it arrived blemish free and met our expectations for the premium price. It has numerous cutouts in the back panel to facilitate wire management and is more than strong enough to handle our 58" plasma TV. The inside shelves are adjustable and the glass fronts on the doors do not interfere with remote control operation. On the negative side is the price and the lack of casters which I plan to install myself.
